Sponsor a meal

Many of our children come to school without breakfast, so we give all our children a cup of porridge when they arrive at 7am this helps them concentrate better throughout the day.

School Shoes

We supply a pair of school shoes to all our sponsored children but an extra pair of shoes is always helpful especially during the rainy season.

Contribute to our plans for a new generator

We really need to replace the worn out small generator that runs our water pump and give some extra capacity for power to some of the classrooms. We would like to purchase a 20Kva gererator with a Perkins engine at a cost of about £9000 installed.

LIA stands in the gap for children & young people who find themselves without a home, becoming their loving and stable family.

Our health clinic is a first port of call taking care of our children and the surrounding community.

Hungry children find it difficult to concentrate; many of our children come to school without breakfast so we provide maize porridge.

About

Alan and Beryl Went

When Alan & Beryl arrived in Masaka in 2003 they first opened an internet cafe, to provide a safe, pornography free environment for people to use. It was at the cafe we met 2 men who had a desire to help the children in their village, Kyetume. As a result of a silver wedding anniversary appeal we were able to build a primary and later a secondary school for them and we started sponsoring children at the schools. Thus Love in Action had it’s beginnings.

We also saw the need to help girls who have dropped out of school through lack of school fees, so the idea of Hosanna House was born as away to help them avoid sugar – daddies.

Our Projects In Uganda

hosanna kasaka 3 389x235 1

Hosanna Youth Project

Hosanna House is our home for girls who are either at Secondary School or working with us in order to go back to education.
This is located on plot of land very close to Masaka Town and to the largest Secondary School in the area. After thinking about this project for some time it happened very quickly, we were shown the plot on a Friday and 6 days later it was ours! The plot had a half finished house on it that we have completed.
We then built block with 3 rooms that can house up to 9 young ladies and a toilet / shower block.

Kasaka Health Clinic

With the help of a group of British medical students, we have been able to build and equip a much needed Health clinic in Kasaka. This will provide healthcare where it is most needed.

At present, we employ 2 full-time nurses. They are responsible for the healthcare of the children at both schools. Each child has a health check every term, and a vaccination service is offered to all our children.

They are also able to give a basic first aid service for the local communities, and are the first vital port of call for the rural community.

Nursery & Primary School

We built Kasaka Primary & Nursery school in January 2008, we teach the Ugandan National Curriculum with a Christian emphasis.  The school is situated in a poor small village about 35 km (21 miles) from Masaka.  Our Nursery was added to the school in 2016.

The school serves a group of small fishing villages and communities spread over an approximate radius of 16miles, some of our children walk 8 miles to school.

We have 9 classes and employ 15 teachers, including our head teacher, we also employ a bursar/site manager, 2 cooks, a caretaker and night guards.

Secondary School Welcome

Secondary School

The sub-county of Bukakata has approximately 7,000 children under the age of 18 of whom approx 1600 are orphans. Currently about 50% of young people leaving primary school in Masaka district go on to secondary school, however the average for the Bukakata sub county is only 11%.

There is only one other secondary school in the sub county.

Our school accepts any young person regardless of ability to pay. Please see our sponsorship page if you would like to help with this scheme.

Our schools are financed by  sponsorship and fee paying students.

In Uganda secondary education comprises 4 years Senior 1 to 4 then pupils take O-Level Exams, in 2016 our first group of pupils took their exams at our school and did very well, all passed and or school ranked very well in the country.

Following O Level exams pupils can then go on for a further 2 years and then take A Level exams, we do not currently offer this at our school but we have plans to do so in the future. Some of our pupils who do very well at O Level exams at brought to Masaka to continue their studies.

Precautions to take While In Uganda

Other items to bring

The people of Uganda generally take great pride in their appearance. You will probably feel underdressed if you bring only old, casual clothing.
